Medication Management Referrals

When deemed appropriate, your counselor will make a referral for medication management.  Our counselors have several local psychiatrists whom we work with to prescribe psychotropic medication, if needed, for our patients.  In some cases, we also consult with a patient’s primary care physician, OB/GYN or pediatrician.

How long does counseling last?

The length of counseling is ultimately the choice of the client. Some people feel they have accomplished what they needed and are feeling better after only several sessions. Most typically, clients will remain in counseling for 12 to 16 sessions. Sometimes clients need a longer time to complete their goals. The length of your counseling will be affected by factors such as: the type and severity of the problem you are experiencing, how long this problem has been in existence, your own personality, and your capacity and willingness to change.

Confidentiality

Under Florida Statute, information you discuss during counseling will generally be kept strictly confidential. Exceptions may arise if you threaten yourself or others, if a court of law issues a legitimate subpoena or if you are in treatment or are being tested by order of a court of law. For more detailed information, please review the HIPAA ACT.

HIPAA Privacy Act

Federal Law, effective April 14, 2003–the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)–contains several measures to protect your personal and medical information. A detailed copy of HIPAA is available & may be printed from the link below.
